Important image from Hokusai’s famous “36-Views of Mount

Fuji” series!

This desirable masterwork is, of course, by Katsushika Hokusai
(Japanese, 1760-1849), one of the most famous names in Japanese art. It is part
of Hokusai’s magnificent series, the Thirty-Six
Views of Mount Fuji
and was
originally designed between 1829 and 1833. Initially intended to comprise thirty-six
prints, the publisher added an additional ten images, to bring total number of
plates in the series to forty-six. The series includes some of Hokusai’s
greatest masterpieces. In each image of this series Mount Fuji appears in some
form, often in the distance as it does here in this fabulous print.

Bolts of lightning steak across Mount
Fuji. It’s base is in total darkness. However, even as the storm rages, low
clouds float above the bright blue sea in the distance.

Would be striking displayed on your home
or office wall.

This reprint would be a
superb choice for any collector. It is truly a classic image from the golden
age of ukiyo-e.
It was made from
meticulously recarved wooden blocks and was printed using exactly the same
techniques – and with the same rich color and excellent detail – as the
Later edition prints like this make an exciting
addition to your collection and are a wonderful way to decorate – at a small
fraction of the staggering cost of one from the first edition print.

Matted and framed, this
print would make a stunning presentation by itself or would be an impressive
addition to an arrangement with other prints. It is one you will be proud to display
in your home or office and is bound to become a cherished family heirloom.

Hokusai’s masterworks
are in the collections of many of the world’s great museums. Among them are the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York;
the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the British Museum, London; and the Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg,
Russia as well as the Tokyo National
