Fine large circa 1900 neo-classical portrait of Hon. Phyllis Bethell playing the flute, oil on canvas by Frank Owen Salisbury. Exceptional classical side profile of the girl playing the flute titled “The Pipes of Pan” after the famous poem by Edward Elgar. The intricate detail on the fingers and distinct features of the face accompanied by an incredible soft use of light is a joy to view. Leadin example of Salisbury’s painting. Signed and in excellent condition. Antique gilt frame.
