Portrait of Bevil Grenville, aged 40, dated 1636

Important Civil War Royalist – Died in the Battle of Lansdowne

Fine large 1636 portrait of Sir Bevil Grenville, Royalist during the Civil War, oil on canvas. Important early portrait of the Royalist and MP for Cornwall who led his men to several victories in the West Country before dying at the Battle of Lansdowne in 1643 following a blow to the head. Its a superb piece of portraiture from the period in art terms as well as historically. There is some dryness and signed of over cleaning associated with painting of this age so would be enhanced further with some in touching and a clean if desired. presented in an antique frame with plaque.

Measurements: 36″ x 28″ framed
